Max Gerald Garoutte was born in Jefferson City, Missouri in 1959. He traveled extensively in his early childhood while his father served in the United States Army. After finishing high school at the age of 16, he entered University of Missouri at Columbia as a pre-med student. His academic achievements allowed him to obtain a Curator’s scholarship. As an undergraduate, Dr. Garoutte served as the Pre-Medical Society President, was an undergraduate teaching assistant and participated in service organizations such as the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program. He received early admittance to the University of Missouri School Of Medicine in 1980. After graduating from the University of Missouri with a medical degree, he did his internship and residency in internal medicine at the St. Luke’s Hospital/Mid-America Heart Institute in Kansas City. He completed his fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at the Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in 1991.
He entered private practice in the Dallas area and had a busy practice in Denton, Texas until he moved to the San Antonio area in 2005. Since his move, Dr. Garoutte has been listed as a “San Antonio Best Doctor” and has been recognized as one of “America’s Top Doctors.” In 2008, he received the Vitals.com prestigious “Patient Choice” award as recognition for his patient responsive approach to the practice of medicine. Dr. Garoutte has earned a five-star rating from U.S. News Health and consistently has been ranked among the top San Antonio most popular cardiologists. He has been a member of the American Heart Association board of directors. He has served as the Director of Cardiovascular Services for the Nix Health System. He has been a regular contributor to the NSIDE MD magazine. He specializes in general, invasive, interventional and preventative cardiology. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases.
Dr. Garoutte serves as the Medical Director, President and CEO of Garoutte Medical Associates and Metro North Cardiovascular Associates, PA. He is also the author of Maximum Destiny-Realizing Your Path to Ultimate Fulfillment and Saving Medicine-A Doctor’s Prescription for a Dying Health Care System. He has been a featured television and radio guest speaking on the topics of health and wellness, disease prevention and new technologies in cardiology. He lives with his wife, Meg in San Antonio. They are the parents to three sons. His avocations include scuba diving, fly fishing, writing prose/poetry, painting, golf and traveling.
